Fresh Connections 2011

The fresh produce industry in both Australia and New Zealand has been hit hard by recent unprecedented natural disasters, but hardest-hit Queensland is set to host international fruit and vegetable event Fresh Connections 2011 to showcase to the region and the world just how resilient the Australasian fresh produce industry can be.

“Despite these significant natural events, what we have is an extremely resilient industry producing high quality product, that bounces back very quickly and we need to emphasise that fact,” said event co-host Michael Worthington, CEO of PMA Australia-New Zealand.

“We are very keen this year to show our support for the Queensland fresh produce industry following their devastating floods and use the event to promote the region and the recovery of the Queensland industry, six months on.”

The Fresh Connections 2011 conference and trade show will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in Brisbane, Queensland, from 8-10 June 2011. The event will be hosted by PMA Australia-New Zealand, the Australian Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries, and  AFFCO, Australia’s leading network of fruit companies.

The program includes a tour of Brisbane wholesale markets, innovative grower facilities and leading retailers, and plenary and concurrent sessions with leading local and international speakers. These include Celebrity Chef Maggie Beer; Greg Foran, Director of Supermarkets Liquor and Petrol Woolworths Supermarkets; Raymond Jin,  Managing Director of the International Department, Golden Wing Mau Group; Joe Cross, a filmmaker and founder of Reboot Your Life; Rich Dachman, Vice President of Produce, Sysco Corporation; and Brian Silbermann, President and CEO of PMA-USA.

Fresh Connections is targeted at fruit, vegetable and floral industries in the region, where wholesale producers connect with retailers. Attendees also include growers, packers and marketers; logistic suppliers; packing and packaging companies; research and technical experts; and government professionals, among other interested groups.  Ω
