Auckland-based Autogrow Systems, which manufactures equipment to control the climate in greenhouses, hopes to grow its turnover from less than $1 million to $10 million. Autogrow makes automatic control equipment to regulate the climate and irrigation in greenhouses. Its systems also add fertilisers to the water, correct the pH balance and start and stop irrigation at the right time.
Managing Geoff Broad says the business initially began as a hobby and has been running as a commercial entity for 12 years. It now has eight employees. Autogrow was recently named the export winner at the Business Govt.NZ and ANZ Flying Start Business Competition and was awarded a $10,000 prize package. Mr Broad says the prize money will help the company make trips to Turkey and Mexico.
