Fytogreen Pty Ltd has been awarded a A$4.3 million contract to supply the biggest green roof in Australia for the Victorian Desalination Project located at Wonthaggi. The project will generate employment in the local area, where Fytogreen will employ 12 staff and source plants from the Australian Ecosystems nursery. Plant cuttings and seed collection will be based on “providence criteria”, whereby all species will be indigenous to the local environment.
The green roof will form part of the desalination plant’s sophisticated roof system, designed to blend the plant into the landscape, provide acoustic protection, corrosion resistance, thermal control and reduced building maintenance.
“Fytogreen Australia is delighted to have been chosen in this competitive tender,” said Geoff Heard, Fytogreen’s Managing Director. “Because of our continual improvement and research and development endeavours over the years, we can deliver this important project that will help meet the Victorian Government’s sustainability criteria for this important public building,” he said.
The Victorian Desalination Project will be delivered by AquaSure with Thiess Degremont as the design and construct contractor. Fytogreen is Australia’s leading specialist in environmental extensive and semi-extensive roof gardens, lightweight and intensive roof gardens, vertical gardens and green facades. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2011.
