The next Greenhouse Technical Management Course will be held at the Virginia Horticultural Centre, South Australia, from 8-12 August 2016. This course is specifically designed to develop high level technical and management skills of growers in protected cropping, suppliers of hydroponic equipment, agronomists, and horticultural researchers and educators.

The course includes training, discussions, demonstrations and lectures supported by written note and other practical tools. It is conducted by two experienced industry presenters: Graeme Smith from Graeme Smith Consulting, and Rick Donnan from Growool Horticultural Systems. The course is customised to suit the requirements of each group.

Topics include media, plant physiology, nutrient management, water quality, irrigation, EC and pH, environmental management and plant health.

The course, from the Cerificate IV in Production Horticulture, aims to help participants:

  • Understand the principles of controlled production systems
  • Use new strategies and technologies to manage greenhouse climates and irrigation
  • Understand plant growing requirements and plant production techniques
  • Develop new strategies for plant protection and integrated pest management
  • Understand plant nutrition and fertigation programs.

This course is now in its 10th year in Australia and is continually reviewed, revised and updated to include the latest ideas and technology. The cost of the course is A$2,250 and runs for four and a half days. All courses require sufficient enrollments to commence, with limited space in each course.
