Rijk Zwaan officially launched its ‘Sensational Flavours’ range to the Australian market during the the recent PMA Fresh Connections Conference and Trade Show held in Melbourne. The range is a step up in the vegetable industry, highlighting varieties that distinguish themselves for their extraordinary flavour.
Through ‘Love My Salad’, the social salad networking platform, and the generous support of Chisholm TAFE hospitality/events and tourism students, key industry stakeholders and partners enjoyed a special tasting experience sampling some of the Sensational Flavours’ range, including Amoroso Tomato, Baby Mignonette, and the Sweeter Melons. Participants exchanged ideas on the phenomenal flavours.
Trade visitors shared their love of salads with roaming vegetables bubbling with enthusiasm: lettuce offered a hunk of goodness, tomato relished in its basil fetish, whilst slender, svelte and smooth carrot cajoled salad-loving guests with a flattering smile.
Chisholm TAFE’s Chef, David O’Brien, commented on the accessibility and direct engagement with the industry.
“The exposure that our partnership with the Love My Salad team, allows the students to develop their preparation skills utilising the superior product and the harmony of flavours,” said David O’Brien.
“Participating in such events, in particular trade exhibition events, adds a dimension of experiential learning for students,” added Judy West, Events and Tourism teacher at Chisholm.
Trade visitors were encouraged to participate and profile their businesses on the social salad network that connects salad lovers and industry professionals internationally. Rijk Zwaan Director, Steven Roberts, expressed his excitement for the concept.
“That’s the ambition of Love My Salad – to share the fun, joy and vitality of vegetables every day – all over the world and in doing so help to increase vegetable consumption. “The Sensational Flavours range is the future of the vegetable breeding company, offering more variation in experiencing flavours to delight all,” he added.
Rijk Zwaan has initially selected a range of varieties for the Australian market, fitting into the contemporary Australian multicultural kitchen, with flavours making them distinctly different. Among these are the sweet-flavoured conical pepper, the special piel de Sapo concept ‘Melon de Autor’, the sensational snacking cucumber, and the tasty purple striped eggplant, which absorbs less oil, making it better suited for cooking. Rijk Zwaan also expects to add value to the food service sector and supermarkets with its premium segment.
Sensational Flavours was recently introduced in the Netherlands, China, Italy, and the UK. Manager Commercial Projects, Frances Tolson, is responsible for Rijk Zwaan’s new product line.
“The interest in Sensational Flavours all over the world is overwhelming,” he said.
