Seed, Transplant and Stand Establishment Symposium

CdvZfLWWAAA1EY1The VII International Symposium on Seed, Transplant and Stand Establishment of Horticultural Crops (SEST2016, the Seed Indaba Africa) will be held at Midrand, South Africa, from 11-14 September 2016, hosted by the ISHS (International Society for Horticultural Sciences). The symposium is a wonderful platform to interact with seed researchers and colleagues from many different countries.

The symposium will be an opportunity to show-case the cutting edge of seed technology, with many international speakers. The program will cover a wide range of topics on seed and technology issues to encompass international priorities and aims and will run over three days with various scientific sessions.

The event will be expanded to cover a wide range of topics and draw on the expertise of international research groups and colleagues. Topics covered at will include issues relevant to:

  • seed technology including seed production, seed germination and seedling development;
  • seed storage;
  • seed physiology;
  • seed pathology;
  • seedling transplant and stand development;
  • grafting;
  • economics and marketing;
  • plant breeding, and
  • all other aspects of research related to horticultural seeds and seed quality.

The symposium will provide opportunities to explore strategies and possibilities, discuss problems, new technologies, methods and other aspects related to seeds and seed crops.  The event aims to promote research and other activities related to seed and soil, biotic and abiotic aspects in seedling growth, transplanting and other practices that could enhance the establishment of a healthy and vigorous crop from seed.

The venue is the beautiful Accolades Boutique Hotel in Centurion, which is ideally placed half way between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and an easy commute on the Gautrain from OR Tambo International Airport.  It is also perfectly positioned to access excellent places of interest for the pre-conference Field Excursion, as well as pre- or post-conference safaris to take in the beautiful wildlife that South Africa has to showcase.
